The Shtandart is not just a tall ship — she’s a living example of maritime heritage. Like the french frigate Hermione, but smaller, she carries the same spirit of adventure. But unlike the Hermione, the Shtandart is a fully independent, volunteer-driven project. Built from scratch by enthusiasts, her very first crew were the same hands that laid her keel.
For over 25 years, Shtandart has sailed continuously — hosting adventurers, dreamers, and sailors of all backgrounds. She welcomes everyone who longs for the wind in the rigging, the creak of timbers under sail, and the deep-rooted tradition of classic seamanship.
But for over a year now, Shtandart has been denied access to ports. Though she left Russia in 2009 and hasn’t returned since, the ship has become caught in the storm of today’s geopolitics — sanctioned not for what she does, but for where she was built (in Russia), and who her captain is (russian).
And yet… she sails on.
Without port access. Without income. But never without spirit.
Thanks to the unstoppable energy of volunteers — both seasoned sailors and first-timers who fell in love with the sea through Shtandart — the ship remains at sea, training, teaching, and inspiring. Every sail raised is a testament to resilience, every voyage a celebration of international friendship and maritime passion.
We feel the strength of support from the sailing community — in France, and across the globe. This year, Shtandart is once again taking part in the Tall Ships Races and organizing sea voyages ranging from 5 to 18 days. Onboard, people not only discover the magic of life under sail, but many go on to become professional mariners.
A Call for Support
The Shtandart is now a symbol of resilience, international cooperation, and knowledge-sharing. It needs allies: welcoming ports, patrons, cultural and educational partners. Supporting this ship means defending a vision of maritime Europe — open, free, forward-looking without forgetting its roots.
We also invite journalists to come aboard the Shtandart frigate and join us for a voyage. It’s an opportunity to discover the ship from the inside and outside, and to experience life at sea — demanding, intense, but thrilling.
