On November 4, we celebrate an important date: the beginning of the construction of the frigate Shtandart.
At the shipyard of the Maritime Training Center, established in April 1994 by the public organization “Shtandart Club,” construction of a full-size replica of the frigate Shtandart began. The first two beams, forming the ship’s keel, were joined on November 4, 1994—30 years ago.
The original frigate Shtandart was built in 1703, based on the personal design of Peter I.
The construction site for the replica has been designated in the park near the Smolny Monastery, and it will be set up as the shipyard of St. Petersburg Admiralty from the time of Peter I.
The Center’s director, Vladimir Martus, believes that building the Shtandart will fulfill the main mission of the Maritime Training Center—professional training of young people: during the Shtandart’s construction, under the guidance of experienced instructors, young people will have the chance to learn nearly forgotten crafts.
